| Pledge a Picketer |
Help Planned Parenthood Turn Lemons into Lemonade!
Tired of the anti-choice movement offending you with graphic inflammatory signs? Want to help the “antis” help us further our mission? Please join our Pledge a Picketer program! On a weekly basis, Planned Parenthood/Women’s Health Services suffers from vocal protestors outside their clinic door. From retired senior citizens to students attending conservative schools that offer extra credit for picketing, these protestors harass our patients, block access to our clinic and attract attention from passers by.
Through the pledge a picketer program, we are hoping to raise money for Planned Parenthood programs and services according to how many anti-choice picketers visit our clinic throughout the year. The idea of pledge a picketer is to take back our sidewalks and intersections by letting them know that the more they protest the more money we raise for PPWP.
“This program is a classic example of turning lemons to lemonade,” said Kim Evert, PPWP President and CEO. “With the participation of our supporters, we will generate one positive outcome to the disturbing, threatening activities of the protestors,” she continued.
Every month we will count the number of picketers that appear at our health center doorstep, and notify those who pledge of the number of picketers for the month and the total amount the program has raised based on pledges. We will also keep our anti-choice visitors posted on how much money they have helped us raise. On average, PP/WHS has 2,800 picketers per year, about 54 per week.
Picketer Facts
- There are approximately 2,800 picketers in front of our clinic each year, 90% of those are “repeat offenders” that picket more than once a week.
- Our records show, every Saturday, picketers outnumber patients by at least 2 to 1.
- Some regional high schools and colleges send students in busloads to picket PPWHS on weekends.
